Karan Johar Talks About Receiving Criticism For Brahmastra, ‘People Within The Industry Celebrate The Ruination Of A Film’
Brahmastra starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt is already entertaining the audience. The film has earned adulation owing to its visual effects and music. Ayan Mukerji took almost five years to make this film and was made on the budget of Rs 410 crores. Karan Johar who has backed the magnum opus recently opened up about the film and its making and how people in the industry looked at it.

While speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Karan Johar mentioned that he was stressed and had a sleepless night before the release of the film. He was quoted saying, “I was humongously stressed. The night prior I could sleep a wink, and I was not able to tell Ayan this, or Ranbir or Alia, because I felt like I had to be like ‘yay, we’ve done this, it’s great, it is going to be massive and don’t worry’. There were all kinds of mixed reviews coming up (after the release) and people were saying either it was amazing or the opposite of it. I felt it (Brahmastra) was such new animal in the jungle, people were having adverse opinions.”

KJo further added that sometimes people in the industry are negative and they celebrate when a film fails, which is not a good thing. One can be critical of the film, which is acceptable, however sometimes they push to being negative about the film. He asserted, “While I have no problems with everyone’s opinions, I sometimes feel sad, because within the industry we have some types of people, who are working for the industry and are with the industry for years… you can be critical but being negative is not nice. Critical we will accept with open arms, it is very imperative, everyone needs that policing.”

The head honcho of Dharma Productions continued, “But I feel sometimes, some people push that from being critical to being negative. Sometimes I feel we are all part of the same industry, so don’t you want this film to work… Sometimes people within the industry, who call themselves members of the media also, celebrate the ruination of a film. I feel that is never a good thing.”

The ‘My Name Is Khan’ director even praised Ayan and his team for their rigorous efforts in making the film despite multiple delays in making the film. He even mentioned that the film took a very long time in making people even think that the film was coming out or not. There was even a point when he became the industry joke.

Meanwhile, the epic saga has grossed Rs 425 crores in just four weeks becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year and the third highest-grossing Hindi film after KGF and RRR. Besides Ranbir and Alia, the film also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles and Nagarjuna, and Shah Rukh Khan in an extended cameo.
